Premier League Matchday 25 Summary - Part 1

In this blog I’m going to provide you the results and reviews of the premier league matches that were played on 11-Feb-2017.
Below are the list of fixtures for the day.
  1. Arsenal Vs Hull City
  2. Manchester United s Watford
  3. Stoke Vs Crystal Palace
  4. West Ham Vs West Brom
  5. Sunderland Vs Southampton
  6. Middlesbrough Vs Everton
  7. Liverpool Vs Tottenham Hotspurs
It is a notable mention that history has been made today by Manchester United as they became the first ever team in the premier league to accumulate 2000 top flight points.
Arsenal needed a win after two consecutive defeats while Manchester United just needed to get out of that 6th spot in which they were stuck for a long time.
Liverpool who have had just won 1 game since the start of 2017 desperately needed a win but it was the only team that can catch the unstoppable Chelsea that they were playing against, Tottenham Hotspurs.
So, presenting to you below the review of today’s matches.

Arsenal Vs Hull City
Full Time Score : 2-0
Team News
Arsenal : Cech, Bellerin, Mustafi, Koscielny, Gibbs; Coquelin, Oxlade-Chamberlain; Walcott, Ozil, Iwobi and Sanchez
Hull City : Jakupovic, Elabdellaoui, Maguire, Ranocchia, Robertson; Huddlestone, N’Diaye; Grosicki, Clucas, Markovic and Niasse
The starting of the game was so intense that it would have been almost impossible to predict the outcome. Players of both the teams were running all over the pitch and the energy level was so much that there should have been a goal within the first 10 minutes. As the game went in full flow, on the 34th minute a controversial goal from Alexis Sanchez that reminded everyone of Maradona’s famous Hand of God gave the Gunners the lead that they very much deserved.
To be honest, Hull were pretty good on the ball too but the only thing that they lacked was finishing in the final third but Arsenal were the team that created the most number of chances. If Arsenal were able to score 2 goals then Hull should definitely have gotten 1 to their name and it was really unfortunate that Ranocchia received a straight red for a hand ball which happened by pure accident. The red card was followed by a penalty that Sanchez converted with ease to score Arsenal’s second goal.
Players who stood out in today’s game were of course Sanchez and Ozil (who surprisingly was ever present today creating and making chances) but Cech definitely deserves a mention as he answered his critics by producing a couple of good saves that ensured that Hull didn’t put pressure on Arsenal. From Hull’s point of view Niasse had a good game. Definitely had a few chances to score but lacked that finishing.
Overall a good entertaining game which Arsenal won with some comfort and for a few hours sit 3rd in the Premier league table.
Manchester United Vs Watford
Full Time Score : 2-0
Teams News :
Man. United : DeGea, Valencia, Smalling, Bailly, Blind, Herrera, Pogba, Mata, Mikhitaryan, Martial and Ibrahimovic
Watford : Gomes, Cathcart, Kaboul, Prödl, Britos, Cleverley, Capoue, Niang, Zárate, Holebas and Deeney
It was a completely dominant display by the home team. They were not too eager nor were they holding back. United used their chances when they got it. There were more than a couple of long range efforts on goal from United while Watford didn’t test United’s defense as much as we hoped they would.
Ibrahimovic however deserves a mention at this point but not for the right reason but because the talisman striker missed more than one near post chances by unusually striking the ball either high or wide. It was not only him that missed chances or hit the ball high but you wouldn’t expect that from Ibra would you?
The first goal was scored in the 32nd minute was very neat game play. Almost flawless. A Martial assist and Mata goal. A free kick by Watford that made DeGea stretch to keep the ball out was the one decent effort by the away team. Second goal by Man. United was scored by Martial and it was really a piece of cake for the player but Ibra got an assist to his name for that goal. I however would like to stress that had Gomes not made the saves that he did, United would have scored at least 4 more goals.
Over all it was the Manchester United of the old.
Stoke City Vs Crystal Palace
Full Time Score : 1-0
Team News
Stoke : Grant, Bardsley, Shawcross, M. Indi, Pieters; Whelan, Adam, Arnautovic, Allen, Ramadan and Crouch
Crystal Palace : Hennessey, Ward, Tomkins, Delaney, Van Aanholt, Milivojevic, McAArthur, Puncheon, Townsend, Zaha and Benteke
Joe Allen, they guy who everyone thought must be benched or even rested for the match turned out to be vital for them as it was his goal that gave the victory to Hugh’s team.
An evenly matched football game and it was really a shame the given the talent that he had at his disposal, big Sam was not able to make Palace win.

Sunderland Vs Southampton
Full Time Score : 0-4
Team News :
Sunderland : Mannone, Jones, Oviedo, Kone, O’Shea, Denayer, Ndong, Larsson, Gibson, Januzaj and Defoe
Southampton : Forester, Cedric, Stephens, Yoshida, Bertrand, Romeo, Davis, Ward-Prowse, Tadic, Redmond and Gabbiadini
Just when everything was going slowly and when everyone thought that there would be no entertainment, Gabbiadini struck in the 30th minute to open Southampton’s scoring a near post goal with his arm. The same man scored in the 45th minute to double the lead. The last two goals were scored by long near the end of the game.
Overall, Southampton played a patient game and scored their goals with absolute certainty. David Moyes just needs to come up with a solution to save Sunderland and fast.
West Ham United Vs West Brom
Full Time Score : 2-2
Team News
West Ham : Randolph; Kouyate, Fonte, Reid, Cresswell; Feghouli, Noble, Obiang, Snodgrass; Antonio, Lanzini
West Brom : Foster; Nyom, Dawson, McAuley, Brunt; Livermore, Fletcher; Chadli, Morrison, Phillips; Rondon
While West Brom were proving that they want to win the game and were playing their hearts out, West Ham manager Bilic could not control his temper.
"Referee was bad" was the statement that the West Ham manager gave after a seemingly 3 pointer match went out of his hand and he had to settle for a point. That being said there can be nothing that can be taken away from the players. They played well and in the end the match was exciting till the stoppage time when the equalizer was scored and Bilic went all mad.
Middlesbrough Vs Everton
Full Time Score : 0-0
Team  News :
Middlesbrough : Valdes, Chambers, Bernardo, Gibson, Da Silva, de Roon, Clayton, Forshaw, Traore, Negredo and Stuani
Everton : Robles, Coleman, Ashley Williams, Funes Mori, Baines, Davies, Gana, Schneiderlin, Lookman, Lukaku, Barkley
There is really nothing worth mentioning in this match except that it was boring with failed attempts and Koeman who came here with a big reputation and high expectations is just not able to deliver as expected from him.
Liverpool Vs Tottenham
Full Time Score :
Team News :
Liverpool : Mignolet; Clyne, Matip, Lucas, Milner; Henderson, Lallana, Wijnaldum; Mane, Coutinho, Firmino
Tottenham Hotspur: Lloris; Walker, Alderweireld, Dier, Davies; Dembele, Wanyama; Eriksen, Alli, Son; Kane
The first half of the match was really an exhibition by Liverpool. A disaster for Tottenham’s defense Ben Davis and to worsen that Mane scores two goals in 2 minutes and 15 seconds. Liverpool we just totally dominant.
For Tottenham,, Dembele and Wanayama seemed to be the only players playing for the team but there is only so much that they can do. None of the big names turned up for Spurs to pull them back in the first half.
The second half was much more balanced with neither of them teams getting much chances to threaten the other but at least Liverpool were able to get to play shots for goal while on the other hand Tottenham looked to play for the high balls into the oppositions penalty area and hoped that someone would slot it home. The major battle was in the wings where many harsh tackles led to multiple bookings for both the teams but Tottenham were booked the most.
No doubt that it was a frustrating game for Tottenham who were looking to close the gap on Chelsea and a major boost to Liverpool who were looking for a chance to break the jinx and return to play attractive football.

Thank you for taking the time to read this post.
